Thanks, glad you like it. A lot of credit is due to StefanF. It was his idea to make the video and he edited and reedited it almost on a daily basis. The guitar gets played rarely. The last to play it was Stefan´s son Thomas. I´m a bit worried that the autographs on the back will wear or get smudged. I think a coat of varnish over them may solve the problem. I have to do a test first to make sure the varnishes and marker ink don´t react with one another. Glad you like the hand - It was red when I bought it. I was thinking in the direction of "Tracks from the Vaults" but "The Unfortunate Cup of Tea" fits as well.

Its manx gaelish and a variation of "The sheep neath the snow" on the "Drive the cold winter away" album.

Ny (manx) = Na (irish) = the
faoi (manx and irish) = neath
neachty (manx) - sneachta (irish) = snow.

The rest is all Bull!!

I included this in my irish leaving cert exam (1980) - trying to be a smart arse. A fat lot of good it did me!

A super sculpture! It reminds me of a "Pamela Andersnow" that we had in the garden in winter a few years ago.

Can this be officially recognised as a post or must Taff reach 3001 before we can congratulate him?

Taff,

Whoever released the Joe Dolan´s Greatest hits CD cobbled together a cover using Horslips as a background. Very likely a Bargain Bin job.

It´s genuine, really, no kidding .......to be continued on April first.

No, seriously folks, the cd is real - the cover is a bad photomontage.

I remember seeing this cd in a tourist shop in Kinsale, Ireland sometime in the 1990s and the thread reminded me of it. So off I went on an internet search and lo and behold ......

I also had problems and thought that the system admin at work had blocked access, but I got in last night at home and today at work without any problem.

Taff, I used a fairly strong paint stripper, wood chisels, pen knives etc. It was fairly hard to get the varnish off. I think earlier guitars had less or thinner varnish on them. No doubt Rory´s sweat and his use and misuse of the guitar led to it´s "tatocaster" look. Having said that, quite a few guitars of that era show similar signs of wear and tear. A famous example bieng Stevie Ray Vaughan´s Nr.1.

Getting the worn look on the freshly exposed wood was a bit of a challenge. I have heard of others using tea bags or even coffee to get the aged look. My trick was to stain the wood a bit and then rub graphite powder (from normal pencils)into the wood and then a light matt clear varnish layer sprayed on it.

I have another copy of one of Rory´s guitars with a bit of a story to it - but that´s for another day or place. After all this is a Horslips forum.

John, You actually played Rory´s guitar - That beats all.

Best to All,

MikeM
