Hello chums! I am told that some of you have been kind enough to enquire about me.
I am fine but decided to walk away for a while as a particular thread really annoyed me due to nativity and stupidity....enough of that..

The good news..
Horslips and Paul Muldoon will be performing his adaptation of Art O'Leary in Armagh on the first weekend of November.John O'Connor Writing School...

There are more events but this is the priority and the one that I have permission to share...and I always ask for permission!😊😉.

Rob will be chuffed that two were Yes in Glasgow and Newcastle...and tonight.....the Stones at Murrayfield...the Rugby ground in Edinburgh!😉

Bloody hell,Don!That reads like the script for an unmade Jerry Lewis film from the 1960s....Horrendous....if in doubt just stay in bed...with some booze and books close to hand...

Be careful....

There is no blessing associated with that individual...utterly loathed by many....but no more on such a tragic subject...

Don...regarding plumbers ( and electricians.) They also charge huge amounts of money in the UK... When you kindly entertained me at your beautiful home we somehow got around to talking about education. You mentioned how stringent standards were enforced in Canada...My jaw probably dropped..Modern standards in the UK ( possibly especially in Scotland) are abysmal...in my experience as a parent and through work ( in the past..)

In my days a relatively small percentage of young people got to to university...but a degree "meant something" and , by and large,it was free..including accommodation. A considerable number of years ago the decision was made ( I think by a Labour government) to massively grow the further education.... " industry.. " Behind all the rhetoric was an attempt to massage youth unemployment statistics by making establishments that were at best " colleges of knowledge "( folk from NI will get that one) into real universities with the right to award degrees, often for utterly daft subjects..Certainly true in Edinburgh...the explosion of degree standard establishments has helped to destroy the city...The only " real" Universities were The University of Edinburgh and Heriot Watt...( mainly a scientific/engineering establishment.) ....

Nationally( U.K.wide) there are far too many students doing degrees in crazy subjects in dodgy establishments that your pet rabbit could get enrolled on...Obviously the country can't afford this and fees have come into play with many screaming about this...

Scotland is odious...Firstly because of the insane secondary system introduced in the late 60s/1970s (I remember in the 60s my primary school headmaster in NI saying that Scotland had the best education in the world, followed by Northern Ireland, due to the rigorous standards...).Children here know that they have an offer of university entry at 16...that is a year before ( the top tier) of children actually leave school and the age at which those in the rest of the UK have just sat their O Levels ( or whatever the term is now) and have two years of A level study ahead...Basic Scottish degrees generally last four years instead of three...because it is acknowledged that it takes a year to bring students up to A level standards....so they can spell their names...

Of late here the odious NSP (no mistake) have been busy destroying the existing mess( everybody wins a prize).and also playing a horrendous " passport " game to attract non British students ( or those prepared to fly under a "flag of convenience" ) with the lure of free education in the expectation that they will follow the party line in elections and any referendum...Even by those who vote for them...grr...it is generally acknowledged that they have destroyed education and the health service..

The relevant thing is that the whole sector of "Technical Schools" which were designed to provide a post primary option for those who weren't academic but who could become craftspeople ,if clever enough..was removed/ destroyed..That meant that few became plumbers/electricians as it was sooo easy to get to a "Uni.." ...an expression that I despise..with the marketed attraction of perpetual partying ...as much booze, sex and drugs as one could handle...and....no work....or parents!

So....we have numerous graduates ( everyone wins a prize) in garbage subjects but not nearly enough of the people who actually make the country "work..." ...So...supply and demand...Tradespeople earn a fortune and the country is awash with unemployable graduates who can't write a letter..The British cliche of the "Polish Plumber" is because of this. ...

My son ,now an old married man of three weeks...gulp...had the unconditional offer of entry into three universities at the age of 16...a year before he left school....even he was embarrassed by this...Not appropriate that I get into this here but about half way through his five year straight Master's Degree in Civil Engineering at The University of Glasgow ( the oldest school of Civil Engineering in the world, trivia fans...) he said to me that if he had to do it all over again he would possibly have decided to be a plumber..😅 Thankfully ,he stuck with the course and it is now about to pay off ,big time...

I ramble,as usual....No insult intended to two of our most senior members...from Norn Iron...who had/ have children attending university in Edinburgh!!! Maybe we should have had them all become electricians/plumbers and formed a company of which we would be the rich b**tard " off shore" directors!😉😂....I can but dream....We could have branched into Canada!!!!

Best to all...John R....

" It's Only Rock and Roll..but I like it.. "As someone once said...

I remember when that video was first shown on UK television..I was at university in Canterbury and an implausibly large number of folk squeezed into the TV room to watch on the single small domestic sized screen...Like it were yesterday....aww..

Don...really sorry about your water issues...Living in a flat, I constantly fear water leaks going downstairs and also leaks from the giant roof above! Had a plumber in this morning...doh...

Some of your writing these past few days has made me wonder if the spirit of Tom Wolfe has found a new home....😉

Mick,Savoy Brown were one of those British bands who did well in the USA but who counted for diddly squat at home....

Her Nibs has decided that,as we are redecorating the whole flat ,that the hall is next....A horrible job....Starting this has required me to move lots of vinyl over the past two days....I have come across some real goodies....Quite a few signed originals....I will maybe put something up elsewhere in due course...😉

Absolutely perfect,Don....great writing...

I really must add some stuff soon...but I have a plumber coming in a few hours and should try for some more kip...

I love this band ...it is hard to see how folk who claim to know R'n R don't...but then again punk was supposed to destroy bands like the Stones...and Yes...and Zep etc!

I have some stories...but the only one I have met is Charlie...in the company of Jack Bruce and Rory...I simply walked into the dressing room...

" Keith don't go!! "😉

Best to all,John R...
