Hi Don,

Still here, but checking in less frequently and only posting when I actually have something to say, except for now because I don't really have any Horslips news at the moment, even the first half of 2021 is looking dodgy for gigs so I can see the rescheduled ones I have tickets for in Derry & Dublin moving again.

I have, like everyone else been joining a few live streams as my only access to live music at the moment. Some of them have been very good but it is rare for any of them to go all the way through without at least one incidence of the stream freezing.

I had actually booked tickets for my first real gig in a real venue for next Friday. Rob Strong was to play in the Workmans Club in Dublin, reduced capacity, social distancing, mask wearing etc. But unfortunately the new level three lockdown this week for Dublin means all indoor events are cancelled or postponed so it is not going to happen next Friday. Hopefully we will get back to level 2 in three weeks and gigs can happen again.

Hi,

I had seven different applications for tickets made either by me or by friends and relations on my behalf and none came though. So I had to make do with listening to it live on BBC Radio on my laptop in Donegal that day. It was actually a great experience listening live and interacting in real time with other fans on the Horslips facebook page.

I would still have preferred to be there.

StefanF,

I really hope never to have to put on a virtual gig again, they are a poor substitute for the real thing which I hope we will get back to in 2021.

I have now added an additional Dearg Doom video from the O2 in 2009 to the end of the playlist because Youtube prevented some people in the US from accessing the one at #29 in the playlist.

DermotCW asked me if I had a tiny url for the playlist. I had to admit that I didn't and didn't know how to get one. So I googled it and now we have one.

Here is a shorter link https://tinyurl.com/y8b6do6s

Thanks for the suggestion DermotCW.

Hi,

One of the benefits of being on Fantasia is that you will get to see the playlist link for the Horslips Virtual Gig before those on Facebook. I'll be posting the link here tomorrow and will also create a new Spoiler Alert post with the set list so those who want to wait and be surprised on Friday evening can avoid it.

I hope some of you are planning to join in on Friday.

Hi,

So it seems like you all are quite happy to be surprised with the contents of the playlist for 29th May.

I ran through the full thing two Sunday's ago to be sure it all worked and the quality was ok throughout and I am quite happy with what is there.

So it is full steam ahead for a new Horslips Virtual Gig at 20:00 BST on Friday 29th May 2020.

Hi,

I spent a lot of my weekend looking through Youtube for Horslips live performances and found a lot of very good stuff, some of it contributed by fellow contributors to this forum.

So I have actually put together a playlist which includes four support acts prior to the Horslips Virtual Gig playlist each performing one track.

These four tracks are followed by 26 Horslips videos from across the years with performances from 1973, 1974, 1975, 1979, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2019.
Unfortunately neither of the tracks that Baz or Ray requested have been captured as a live performance on YouTube so can't be included.

I am not sure whether to share the setlist for the virtual gig or leave it as a surprise for everyone on the night of 29th May which is just over four weeks away.

What do you all think, do you want to know or do you want to be surprised?

Regards,

John

Thanks Taff55 for running with this.

Enjoying seeing all the suggestions for songs to include in a virtual gig playlist on the FB posts. I think most people seem to be missing the point that we need actual videos to choose from and are just throwing out song titles.

I was looking at my virtual gig playlist and reckon that about four or five of them are good enough to consider. Unfortunately all of the Belfast ones have sound problems with the drums and bass.

From my playlist I would offer:-

Maeve's court into Charolais from Limerick.
Furniture from Roryfest in Ballyshannon.
The Snakes Farewell from the book launch.
Johnny's Wedding from Limerick.
Loneliness from Roryfest in Ballyshannon.

Others with reasonably good sound and video are:

The Power & The Glory from Sligo.
Sideways to the Sun from Sligo.
I'll be Waiting from Dunluce.

But I am sure some of the other guys have got good videos to offer up for consideration too.

I also think we should definitely include B'im Istigh ag Ol from the 1973 stadium concert. There was another video from that 1973 concert on the RTE TV50 website that I cannot find at the moment which had a few tracks from that 1973 Stadium concert including a cover of Steppenwolf's Never Too Late.

Anyone any other video suggestions for a playlist and don't be too shy to suggest your own if they are good enough?

Regards,

John

Hi,

Well we don't 'need' to do anything but I thought it might be a good idea to organise another Horslips virtual gig for the date they were due to play the Rory Gallagher Festival in Ballyshannon on Friday 29th May.

Having done two virtual gigs with my own playlist I thought it would be a good idea for us to suggest and the various Horslips admins to curate and agree a new playlist of Horslips videos that would make up a playlist for a virtual gig.

I am sure with some of mine, Daragh's, Taff55 & StefanF's videos over the years plus some of the 1973 National Stadium gig we could put our heads together and come up with a list that would work. Anything that is out there on Youtube is a candidate, my only suggestion would be to include only live performances and not audio only tracks.

I am happy for any of mine to be included and I am sure the others won't object either.

We could also start the playlist with a support act or acts, e.g include a track from Tir na nOg, Scullion, Moving Hearts, Lisa Lambe, Fiach Moriarty or anyone as an intro to the gig, maybe only three or four tracks and it doesn't have to be only one artist. The admins could ask the boys for their suggestions and if Lockyjim or Baz are reading this feel free to make some suggestions, we want something that you guys are happy with.

What do you all think . . .?

Hi,

Since Horslips in the Olympia on St Patrick's day has been postponed and it is increasingly looking like most pubs in Ireland will shut (even if they don't we should not be going out to pubs at the moment) I am going to organise another Horslips Virtual Gig for 17th March. The idea is that at a pre-determined time (I suggest 20:30 GMT) we all open the link to my Horslips Virtual Gig YouTube playlist and click play all at the same time.

I mentioned it to Taff55 yesterday when I was still in Derry with no internet but now that I am back in Dublin with broadband I can mention it on Fantasia as well.

It is the same playlist I used in 2017 with 17 Horslips videos I have taken at various Horslips gigs in the last nine years.

It starts with an access all areas look at the sound check for Horslips in Limerick with King of the Fairies and follows that with sixteen videos making up a set list for a virtual gig.

Here is the playlist link.

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list= ... FvMDnM-LEgkJlbm_YNVw0g7kE

I am hoping that the Horslips admins might publicise it on Facebook and in the various postponed gig events so taht people who were looking forward to a St Patricks night Horslips gig can at least join in a virtual one.

I hope some of you can join in.

Regards,

John

Sorry you won't make it this year Don. Hopefully I'll see you again further on up the road. . .

Good luck with the surgery but I think you have had more than enough practice in getting over knee surgeries so it won't be a problem for you.

Happy New Year everyone,I am just back from Derry where a Horslips banner still adorns the entrance to St. Columbs Hall advertising the gigs on 14th & 15th March.

Don, looking forward to meeting you again and StefanF, I love the story from Eamonn, especially being accompanied by the actual cartoon itself.

Unfortunate news this week that the exhibition is not going ahead in Derry but looking forward to the two gigs and I will also be in the Olympia on 17th March.

Best wishes for 2020 to all on fantasia, contributors and lurkers alike.

Hope to see many of you in Derry in March.
